Formulation Concern - Alum
Does aluminum (alum) have a negative impact on patient health?
Aluminum has been used as an adjuvant in numerous vaccines for over 70 years with no severe adverse effects reported. Despite suggestions, made decades ago, that alum may contribute to conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or other neurological disorders, there has been no conclusive evidence that it negatively impacts patient health.
Center-Al, ALK’s Alum-precipitated extract, provides less than 0.85 mg of elemental aluminum per dose, which is within FDA safety limits. Aluminum is one of the most abundant elements on Earth. It is readily consumed through food and water and is present in many common consumer products, such as antacids and antiperspirants.
